The new severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was first detected in Wuhan (China) in late-December 2019 and it quickly spread around the world. Several new public health strategies have been implemented over the past 2 years to defeat the pandemic, such as partial or total lockdowns, wearing facemasks in public, social distancing, but above all effective vaccines against COVID-19, [1].
